Flir E-Series Thermal Imaging Camera

GTI is happy to announce that we have added the FLIR E40 and E60 cameras to our line of machine maintenance products. GTI is very serious about providing our customers with the very latest in predictive maintenance equipment. The FLIR E40 and the FLIR E60 both link via wi-fi directly to the iPad, and the iPhone4. These advances provide a great compliment to our very own Vibration analysis system. All based on the iPad platform for maximum functionality, and versatility in the field. Our products do not just look good, and run good in the lab, they are tested and proven in the field.

Okuma Spindle Exchange Program

I wanted to tell you a quick story about a call I received today from a company out of the Mid-West. They are die casting shop and run Okuma Spindles. Like most of our clients, they called the OEM to see what the cost might be to repair the spindle. The Okuma representative told them about the Okuma Spindle Exchange program and the cost. The cost they were quoted was $35,000! They were surprised at this prohibitive cost and decided to look online for another option. We are fortunate to have very high online visibility, and this company gave us at GTI Spindle a call this AM. We quoted the cost at $8,500. Yes, you read that right…$35,000 or $8,500…guess where he is sending his spindle? So..before you send your Okuma Spindle to the OEM, I would recommend giving us a chance to give you a quote.

Dittel EASYLINE M1

Consistent high quality, automation, increased productivity, reduction of downtimes these are the demands of the machine tool industry for production processes. During grinding or dressing sequences, it is a necessity that the process is both safe and also able to achieve consistent workpiece quality. Primarily developed for use on high precision grinding machines, the EASYLINE M1 enables detection, evaluation and monitoring of unbalance. Fast and precise compensation is performed by an external non-contact Balance System – containing electromechanical adjustable compensating weights – fully automatic and at operating speed. All settings of the equipment (with six keys) are visible on the back-lit high resolution monochrome 5.7“ LCD screen (quarter VGA size), the language used by the unit‘s display is selectable (English, French, Italian, Spanish and German). During the BALANCE-FUNCTION, continuous display of unbalance, speed and balance status of the active spindle keeps the operator well informed. The BALANCE FUNCTION is selected either manually or by external machine commands. A variety of pre-settings allow the user to adapt the EASYLINE M1 Balancing System to his very special conditions. For automatic operation, the Control Unit M1 can be connected to any grinding machine CNC control through the respective 25 pin hardwire interface on the rear panel. All digital inputs and outputs are optically isolated and therefore insensitive against electrical interference.

Set EASYLINE M1

  • one EASYLINE M1 Control Unit,
  • one External Balancing Head, (Ø80, Ø102 or Ø122)
  • one Transmitter,

iPad Vibration Analyzer with IMI sensor

GTI Spindle Technology has succeeded in using today’s accelerometers to measure vibration on Apples new iPad tablet. Converting the Analog signal to digital without the use of an additional battery was our biggest challenge. We knew that to succeed from the portability of the iPad we needed to keep things streamlined.

Our original prototype ran on MEMS sensor chips vs a standard accelerometer. The low power consumption of the MEMs chips worked well with the power constraints of the iPad. MEMS sensors did reveal other challenges of their own in regard to background noise and some inaccuracy’s. We intend to continue to improve these sensors going forward as part of our design improvement as well as develop a complete wireless solution for our customers.

In the meantime IMI Sensor, one of the leading brands of vibration accelerometers has developed a low power 100mv/G sensor to work with our iPad analyzer. It allows us to run two channels of vibration acquisition at one time without power issues. (IMI sensor specs can be found at www.gtisindle.com) These sensors provide a clean calibrated signal for the iPad with no unwanted frequency spikes or disturbance from a trusted name in sensors.

IMTS 2012- US Manufacturing News

US Manufacturing Seems to be All Over the News

And everyone, including President Obama, is talking about it.

On NPR- “The Hottest Product In Manufacturing: Jobs” (click to listen to full report)

“We’re going to have a lot of jobs in the service sector because we’re a mature economy. But America’s economy is always going to rely on outstanding manufacturing – where we make stuff, where we’re not just buying stuff overseas, but we’re making stuff here and we’re selling it to somebody else.” said, President Obama

Local Motors is hoping to disrupt the old ways of doing business by  “crowdsourcing”  new designs for automobiles.  They know they won’t be overtaking the big 3 any time soon, but they will be building some of the most innovative and fun rides around.  You can even submit your own design ideas.

And on the hill – “Manufacturing our way to a stronger economy” (click to see full information)

Mike Rowe, of ” Dirty Jobs” fame, wants the US Senate Commerce Committee to focus on jobs in America.  On May 11, 2011 Mike along with other manufacturing dignataries and visionaries will plead the case to the Science, Commerce and Transporation Committee that strenghening our manufacturing base will create a stronger and more robust economy.
